Nigeria losses revenue as United Airlines stops operation

… Emirates reduces frequency on Lagos routes

Nigeria aviation industry witnessed double loss in revenue and job as United Airlines stops operation and Emirates Airline reduces its frequency. United airlines which announced the stoppage of its operations on Houston-Lagos routes months ago had its last flight from Lagos on June 30, 2016. Also, Emirates that planned to reduce daily flight on Dubai-Lagos route from two to one did it on the same day as United Airlines. According to a staff of a foreign airline at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos Nigeria, “United Airlines stopped their operations to Lagos on June 30 and the Emirates reduced their operations the same day. This is double reduction in the revenue for aviation agencies in the country”.  The aviation agencies that are directly hit are Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN; Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA and Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA. Apart from revenue loss, the staff of United Airlines numbering about 70 are out of job. Another set of service providers affected are the fuelers, in-flight catering services, ground handling companies.
