...To pay outstanding October and November, 2016 salaries
After a marathon and exhaustive meeting that lasted for hours between the aviation unions and
the senior management staff of Arik Air, both parties agreed that the airline
resume operations forthwith.
The meeting was held at the Nigerian Civil Aviation
Authority’s Headquarters with "the Chairman of the Airline, Sir Johnson Arumemi-Ikhide
in attendance" according to a reliable source. The Director-General of NCAA was
represented by Capt. Abdullahi Sidi (Director, Operations and Training) and also chaired the meeting.
According to a communique issued after the meeting:
"Arik Air undertakes to pay the outstanding October and November, 2016 salaries. October salaries to be paid on or before Friday 31st December, 2016. While November salaries to be paid on or before 31st December, 2016."
" The Unions to submit the acknowledged copies of the letters forwarding membership forms of their prospective members to the NCAA and NCAA shall forward same to the management of Arik Air to do the needful."
"A committee to review the circumstances of all laid off employees, made up of one member from each union and Arik Air, was constituted to be inaugurated on Tuesday, 10th January, 2017. The Hawker fleet employees are exempted from the review."
Parties at the meeting resolved that Arik Air is to resume operations forthwith upon the signing of the communique.
It was also agreed that "no individual staff shall be victimised as a consequence of the strike action."
The communique was signed by: Captain Ado Sanusi, Deputy Managing Director of Arik Air; Capt. Abdullahi Sidi, Director, Operations and Training for NCAA; Garuba Akeem, Vice President Treasury for Arik Air; Ochema Aba, General Secretary NAAPE; Olayinka Abioye, General Secratary NUATE and Frances Akinjole, General Secreatry ATSSSAN
